The 1st International Divertor Workshop (one of the satellite workshops of the 17th PSI conference) has been held on May 28-30, 2006, in the Huangshan city (Yellow Mountain area), China. It was organized by Prof. Chung Hsiung Wu and hosted by the Institute of Plasma Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. 40 participants from 9 countries attended the workshop. Besides from institutes and universities we were very happy to have two participants from industry. 18 presentations were delivered in the workshop.

Topics covering: 1. Divertor modeling, 2. Divertor experiments, 3. Divertor design and engineering, 4. Divertor materials. The divertor modeling associated content was summarized by David Coster (Germany IPP) and the divertor experiments and engineering were summarized by Albrecht Herrmann (Germany IPP). One motivation of holding this workshop is to improve the interaction between scientific community and industrial community, and the interaction between divertor modeling group and experiment group.

At present the construction of the ITER device is going to be started, and recently China has just completed the construction of the EAST device. Both of these two devices have similar divertor configuration and are designed for steady state operation. So the importance of divertor related physics, material science and engineering become more visible. This workshop will contribute to the understanding of the divertor related physics and promotes the international cooperation in this area.( Xu Guosheng reports. )
