Scientists in Institute of Solid State Physics, Hefei Institutes of Physical Science developed one novel kind of high-performance damping component for GaoFen-7 satellite.
GaoFen-7 is first civil-use optical transmission three-dimensional surveying and mapping satellite. And during its latest mission, it managed to obtain images with high resolution up to 0.65 meter.
In this project, the high-performance damping component played a role in the launch as well as the stable on-orbit operation of the satellite.
Based on the "high density twin-boundary relaxation type damping mechanism" theory, which was discovered and proposed by Prof. GE Tingsui, the member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the team pushed their work further to develop the high damping materials which was a novel kind of vibration reducing alloy with not only the rigidity as metal, but also the high damping characteristics as rubber.
By collaboration with the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, the damping component was successfully designed and fabricated. It can suppress more than 90% of the vibration energy during the service condition of satellite.
