AIOFM Develops A 3D Printed Photoacoustic Spectroscopy NO2 Gas Sensor
Date: 2020/05/13 Author: LIU Kun

Recently, Prof. GAO Xiaoming’s group at Anhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics under Hefei Institutes of Physical Science developed a sensor based on 3D printed photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS) with capability to measure sub-ppb level NO2.

The developed 3D printed PAS sensor has a strong potential for developing a mini-portable PAS trace sensor, especially for developing a load limited UAV based atmospheric trace gas or aerosol absorption measurement system.

PAS offers several advantages including independent on the wavelength, insensitivity to the optical path length and portable size, which was widely used for detection of trace gas and aerosol absorption.

Recently, the group conducted research on 3D printed photoacoustic spectroscopy technique. By using 3D printing technology, the photoacoustic detection module was highly integrated and a detection limit of 0.8 ppbv was achieved for NO2 measurement with a 450 nm laser. The performance of the developed 3D printed PAS sensor was illustrated by measuring atmospheric NO2, and the results are agree with that obtained from the commercial NO–NO2–NOX gas analyzer.

In addition, based on this work, the group participated the 14th China Graduate Electronic Design Competition of Zhaoyi Innovation Cup and won the second prize.

This work was supported by National Key Research and Development Program of China (NO. 2016YFC0303900 and NO. 2017YFC0209700) and National Natural Science Foundation of China (NO. 41475023 and No. 41575030).
