Date: 2018/05/17 Author: LIU Kun

On April 21, Dr. REN Wei from Chinese University of Hong Kong visited Anhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics (AIOFM), at the invitation of Dr. LIU Kun.

Dr. REN Wei gave a lecture entitled "Recent advances in photoacoustic and photothermal spectroscopy for trace gas sensing".

During his lecture, he shared new techniques developed in his group, such as evanescent-wave quartz-enhanced photoacoustic spectroscopy (EW-QEPAS), fiber-laser intracavity photoacoustic spectroscopy (FLI-PAS), and hollow-core fiber photothermal interferometry (HCF-PTI).

After the lecture, he conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions with the graduated students and researchers presented.

Dr. REN Wei visited the Atmospheric Physics and Chemistry Research Laboratory and conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions with researchers on relevant topics on photoacoustic spectroscopy, absorption spectroscopy, etc., as well as further in-depth cooperation in the future.

Biography
Dr. REN Wei received his B.S. and M.S. degree from Tsinghua University in 2006 and 2008, respectively. He received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University in 2013. After one year of postdoctoral research at Rice University, Dr. Ren joined CUHK as an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering starting in August, 2014. His current research focuses on the development of new technologies and the understanding of basic principles in the areas of combustion and propulsion, alternative fuels, laser diagnostics and gas sensing.
