FANG Xiaodong

Dr. FANG Xiaodong, the director of the laser research center, Anhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics(AIOFM), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He received his PhD degree from Osaka University, Japan in 2000. He had conducted researches at the Faculty of Engineering Science and the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research, Osaka University as visiting researcher and visiting professor, respectively. He also engaged in research and development in the field of semiconductor devices and IC process in Hitachi Ltd, Japan.

Research Field:

1.The successful approach of discharge excitation led to the development of excimer lasers as practical and reliable tools for various applications. One subject of our studies is focused on the application of excimer laser in the fields of industry, medicine and scientific research. With characteristics which combine the precision to remove layers of micrometer thickness of the position accuracy of nanometers for the repair of semiconductor surfaces and the ability to vaporize most materials, excimer lasers have developed into an important tool in many areas of materials processing. The unique properties of their UV emission which allow the modification of surfaces and surface-near layers by deposition, doping and material removal are also a fascinating aspect of fundamental physics: the problem interaction of intense radiation with matter in a spectral region of usually strong absorption.

2.Functional thin film materials, nanomaterials, and novel micro-nano devices, including material synthesis, device fabrication, and characterization: 1) Semiconductor oxides and metal sulfides thin films and nanomaterials, investigating their preparation, properties, and applications. 2) Preparation and physical properties of delafossite based transparent conductive oxides and their application technology.3) Preparation and properties of quasi one-dimensional semiconductor oxides nanostructure arrays films, such as ZnO/TiO2 nanorod/nanowire arrays, TiO2  nanotube arrays, and TiO2 nanosheet arrays, and their application in dye-sensitized solar cells, quantum dot-sensitized solar cells, and perovskite solar cells.
