On June 6th, professor G.G.Matvienko, director of V.E. Zuev Institute of Atmospheric Optics, Siberia Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences (IAO, SB RAS), and Professor WANG Yingjian, director of Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academic Sciences,signed a scientific cooperation agreement. According to the agreement, IAO and Anhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics (AIOFM), CAS will conduct a series of cooperations in areas of atmospheric spectroscopy, lidar technology, and atmospheric observation study.
IAO and AIOFM share similar research interests and have years of cooperation and exchange. At the invitation of Prof. WANG Yingjian, a four scientists delegation, led by G.G.Matvienko, visited for academic exchange from June 4th to 7th, 2012. The delegation visited Laboratory of Atmospheric Physico-Chemistry, Atmospheric molecules Absorption SpectroscopyLaboratory, Laser Lidar Detection Technology Laboratory and field observation station. Russian scientists showed great interests in correlative research of AIOFM.
During the visit, Russian scientists made four presentations to introduce the general status of IAO and the latest research results of global atmospheric environment studies; propagation of high-power laser radiation through the atmosphere; laser and Fourier-transform spectroscopy and applications of molecules, molecular complexes, and nanoparticles in atmospheric research; lidar atmospheric detection technology. This academic lecture was chaired by Prof. ZHANG Weijun, deputy director of AIOFM.
On the basis of mutual understanding, both sides reached a consensus for win-win development in the future. Both sides will conduct substantial cooperations in bilateral exchange of scientists, publishing articles on academic journals hosted by both sides respectively, sharing information and organizing bilateral academic seminar.
Background:
IAO is a worldwide renowned institute. The institute's main research interests include atmospheric high resolution absorption spectroscopy, laser and light propagation in atmosphere, radar technology, and the environmental optics. The institute has a series of world class research sites such as Siberian Lidar Station, aerosol chamber, astronomic site, airborne laboratory and so on.
Russian delegation’s visit is an important exchange trip after Prof. WANG Yingjian’s visiting Russia with atmospheric optics scientists of AIOFM in 2009. The delegation's visit and the signing of cooperation agreements have significant importance for promoting further cooperation between AIOFM and IAO, RAS.
