ASIPP director Prof LI Jiangang will have more responsibilities in the coming years, as he has been designated to double as Vice President of University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). The appointment was announced by Mr HE Yan, deputy secretary-general, Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) on Friday, Nov. 28 at a meeting of high officials of CAS Hefei branch and USTC.
This “cross-border” appointment is a move of CAS “research-education combination, Integrated Innovation” strategy. Affiliated with CAS and based in same city, CAS Hefei branch and USTC have long been close partners, especially in fusion R&D and ITER. Concurrently, Prof ZHU Changfei, USTC vice president, will join the top management team of CAS Hefei branch as its deputy director beside his present position.
“The new role as USTC vice president implies more responsibilities; one of them is to enhance the marriage of the institutes and the University,” says Prof Li. “This doesn’t mean I am leaving fusion, I will stay in fusion my whole life.”
