From December 15th to December 17th, Chinese Academic of Sciences invited an international evaluation committee to assess the research progresses and development potentials of Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, CAS (CASHIPS). The evaluation panel consistedof 12 world-renown experts who are working in the fields of nuclear physics, Fusion Engineering, magnet technology, environmental remote sensing, biomedicine, biological engineering, robotics, information science and automatic control. Among them, professor Liu Quansheng, a nuclear fusion experts from University of Maryland, was selected to be the committee chair; professor Ulrich Platt,an environmental physicist from University of Heidelberg, and professor Hans Schneider, former director of National High Magnetic Field of United States, were the co-chairs of the expert panel.
In the three days, the evaluation committee visited laboratories, listened to progress reports, and had panel discussions with scientists and graduate students from CASHIPS. Based on these investigations and surveys, the panel members had a comprehensive and rigorous evaluation about the disciplineslayout, major research progress, and future development planning of Hefei Institutes of Physical Science.
Dr. Zhan Wenlong, thevice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, attended and listened to the preliminary assessment results. In the opening ceremony, The CAS Planning Bureau Director, Pan Jiaofeng, presented appointment certificates to the evaluation experts, and Dr. Shi Bing, the evaluation supervisor of CAS Planning Bureau,gave a brief introduced about the CAS instituteassessment.
The final report from the evaluation panel as well as the opinions from individual experts are expected to be feedback to the China Academy of Sciences in a month.
