The kick-off meeting of Helmholtz-CAS JRG, Optimization of Urban Traffic Management towards Environment - Friendly and Safe Mobility (OptimUM), was held in Hefei in April 21st, 2015.
‘The concept of sustainable urban traffic management advocated in this project is quite important in the current urban management system, and this project strives to provide the scientific basis and the technical means for the urban traffic management departments to find the best fit point in traffic management and environmental protection.’ Prof. Wenqing Liu, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the director of AIOFM , said in the meeting.
It is well-known that German Aerospace Center - Institute of Transportation Systems (DLR-TS) has wealthy experience in traffic safety and traffic pollution emission model, and Anhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, CAS, has made great progresses on the traffic pollution emissions monitoring and its impacts on the air quality. These advantages contribute to the bilateral cooperation in the OptimUM.
Both sides plan to carry out joint research on air pollution analysis on traffic main artery and intersection, and optimization scheme of traffic in terms of traffic-related air pollution and traffic safety. The experiment will be performed in the ITS(Intelligent Transportation System) test area in Hefei, China. The results and findings of this project will contribute to an increase in safety, environment protection as well as quality of life.
As the representative of both sides, Prof. Pinhua Xie, the deputy director of AIOFM,and Alexander Sohr, the deputy director of German Aerospace Center, and Dr. Andreas respectively introduce the previous research work and their future research plans, then discuss with the experts attended the meeting.
