Light, Energy and the Environment Congress (LEE) was held in Soochow from Nov.1 to Nov.5, 2015. Prof. LIU Wenqing, CAE Academician, Director of Anhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics (AIOFM), CAS, was invited to give the keynote speech Progress of Atmospheric Environmental Monitoring Technology in China. Prof. LIU Jianguo, Vice President of Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, CAS, Co-Chaired the E2 meeting Optics and Photonics for Energy & the Environment. Over 150 scientists and researchers from about 10 countries and regions in the field of optics attended the E2 meeting. Over 80 dissertations were shown in the keynote speeches, oral reports and posters.

The latest research results covering atmosphere, water and soil pollution monitoring technology given by AIOFM attracted much attention in the meeting. Prof. Pinhua XIE, Deputy Director of AIOFM, gave a report on free radical cavity ring-down spectroscopy detection system and its application of the independently developed NO3. Prof. Cheng LIU, Deputy Director of Key Laboratory of Optics for Environmental Monitoring Technology, reported the research progress of the airborne and satellite remote data verification. And Dr. Weixiong ZHAO, Associate Professor in AIOFM, made a presentation on measurement of aerosol extinction coefficient with incoherent broadband cavity enhanced absorption spectra. Xue LU, a Ph.D student from AIOFM, obtained The Best Student Awards for Excellent Poster-presentation at the LEE Congress.

In addition, AIOFM invited Prof. Arthur Dogariu, Princeton University, USA, Prof. Brian Orr, Macquarie University, Australia, Prof. David Griffith, University of Wollongong, Australia, Prof. Frans Harren , Radboud University Nijmegen, Netherlands, Prof. Hiroaki Kuze , Chiba University, Japan, Prof. Ulrich Platt, Heidelburg University, Germany, Prof. Thomas Wagner, Max Planck Institute, Germany, and Dr. Andrex Fix, Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) Atmospheric Physicto, Deutsches, to visit the institute and discuss the feasibility of observation data sharing and joint experiments in the future.

Background

LEE Congress held by Optical Society of America (OSA) is a joint meeting of E2, PV (Optical Nanostructures and Advanced Materials for Photovoltaics), SOLAR (Optics for Solar Energy) and SOLED (Solid-State and Organic Lighting) meetings. It’s held in turns in Europe, America and the Asia-Pacific regions annually.
