Professor LI Jiangang has been elected academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), as the list of 70 newly elected academician was officially released on 7th December, after a twelve- month-long, three-round selection process.
LI became Director of ASIPP in 2001, leading an institute of approximately 600 people engaged in thermonuclear fusion, fusion technology and engineering, plasma physics and its application, superconductivity, solar cell and ITER project. During his 13-year tenure, ASIPP has achieved great success on EAST and built widest cooperation with international institutions.
Under his leadership, EAST team has won the state’s first-class S&T honor--National Science and Technology Progress Award twice, and the Asian Achievement Award by International Organization of Chinese Physicists.
LI plays an important role in national and international projects. He was named chairman of China Nuclear Fusion Experts Committee in 2011.
The election of new academicians of CAE is held every two years. This year, altogether 521 candidates were nominated, while only 70 made it at the end.
