On Jan. 7th, the Atmospheric Optics Research Center of Anhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics (AIOFM), held a "Distinguished Fellow" employment Ceremony. Dr. WANG Yingjian, the director of Hefei Institute of Physical Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences issued an appointment letter of “"Distinguished Fellow" to Dr. WANG Zhien.

The ceremony was chaired by Dr. WU Yi, director of the Atmospheric Optics Research Center. Dr. WU described the curriculum vitae and academic achievement of Dr. WANG Zhien . He congratulated Dr. WANG for his successfully passing the evaluation as "Distinguished Fellow". After the ceremony, Dr. WANG Zhien  presented a report entitled “Cloud and Aerosol Studies with Multi-sensor Observations”.

Dr. WANG Zhien was born in Dongzhi county of Anhui Province in June 1966. He graduated from AIOFM and received a master's degree in 1994. In 2000, he graduated from the University of Utah and received a doctorate degree. Dr. WANG is currently a tenured professor at the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, University of Wyoming, USA. He also serves as the chief scientist for the airborne platform of atmospheric exploration. He is a member of cloud phase classification algorithm team in the U.S. Atmospheric Radiation Monitoring Project, and the director of CloudSat – the cloud-borne microwave radar. He is mainly engaged in researches related with active and passive remote sensing of atmospheric aerosol and cloud, the aerosol and cloud parameterization, aerosol and cloud interactions, and their climatic effects. He established an airborne Mie Raman lidar system, which has been used extensively in the atmospheric aerosol and cloud detection and experimental study. Dr. Wang published more than 50 papers on Journals like Nature, Optics Express, Geophys.Res. Lett., J. Geophys. Res, J.Appl.Meteor, Bull.Am.Meteor.Soc. . He received the National Science Foundation "CAREER" Award in 2007, and the "Group Achievement" award by National Aerospace Aviation Administration in 2008.
