Director of Office of Science, DOE, Dr William Brinkman squeezed in one day on 18 June to pay a visit to ASIPP after the sixth ITER Council Meeting in Shzhou, China.The entourage included Dr Edmund Synakowski, Associate Director for Fusion Energy Sciences, and Dr John Stephen BinkleySenior Technical Advisor, DOE, and Ms YING Peng, DOE China Office.
After a welcome, Prof Li introduced the present status of EAST and ITER-CN in ASIPP. Being from the ITER-US DA, the guests showed great interest, intercepting Prof LI’s introduction by asking questions and commenting. Then the delegation was invited to a site tour to EAST tokamak and its major systems, and ITER superconductor workshop.
Following the tour, the host and guests had discussion on bilateral cooperation on fusion research and ITER program. Prof LI acknowledged and hailed the existing cooperation between ASIPP and GA, PPPL, FRC and other US laboratories. Dr Brinkman was impressed by the achievement made by ASIPP, and noted the sound cooperation base. Two sides had expressed the wishes to strengthen future cooperation on MCF between two countries.
