A serial seminars on plasma theory was kicked off Thursday, 1 July by Prof. XIANG Nong, the newly appointed head of the Theory Division, with a talk “Plasma Sheath and Dynamics”. The talk was well attended by staff and students from in and out of the division, marking a good beginning of a serial talks in the coming few months.
In his talk, Prof.XIANG reviewed the sheath dynamics including DC and RF sheaths, discussed typical approaches to solving sheath problems and basic sheath models. At the same time he highlighted recent hot topics in this area and outlined the future work relevant to the ICRF experiments in the institute.
In order to enhance the division’s communications and cooperation within the institute as well as with the outside plasma community, it is planned that the seminars will be held every two weeks, and they will focus on the latest progress and hot topics of plasma physics and controlled fusion at home and abroad.
In addition to theoretical topics, close attention will also be paid to the latest developments of tokamak plasma experiments. The invited speakers will be from different research areas. The schedule of the future seminars, including the speaker, title, and abstract, will be announced on the webpage soon.
