Professor TAN Zizhong from University of Washington visited IAMT on Sep. 29th. Dr. TAN is an internationally renowned scholar in automation field. he is the chairman of IEEE Robotics and Automation Society and was appointed Einstein Professorship of CAS. Dr. TAN visited the labs of robotics and intelligent equipment and presented an report entitled ‘International Trend of Robot Development’. The presentation was hold by Dr. MEI Tao, director of IAMT. Scientists from IAMT, including IAMT vice director Dr. LUO Minzhou and Dr. KONG Lingcheng attended the seminar. Professor TAN Zizhong gave a general introduction about robotics and the demands from the development of world economy, military needs and people's livelihood. He emphazised the key technologies to be broken through in robotics, the opportunities and challenges in robot development, and the connection between robotics and nano-technology. Following Dr. TAN’s talk, director MEI Tao introduced the development process and current status of IAMT. On behalf of IAMT, Dr. MEI issued Prof. Tan an appointment letter as the director adviser of IAMT, and proposed to strengthen the academic cooperation in the field of robotics and intelligent equipment. Professor Tan Zizhong is the vice-chair of IEEE NANO committee, vice-chair of IEEE Neural Network Society and IEEE fellow. His researches have been focusing on system science and control theory. He has published over 90 research papers, which cover broad areas, including stochastic filtering and control, singular optimal control, bilinear system, singular systems, neutral system, nonlinear system, large system decoupling and coordinating control, quantum mechanics nonlinear filtering, nonlinear feedback control and coordinating control of robots, etc.
