Dr. Dean Venables from University Collage Cork (UCC, Ireland) and Dr. Ravi Varma from National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC, India) visited Anhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics (AIOFM) on June 9th., 2015.
Dr. Venables gave a presentation titled Absorption and scattering of ultraviolet radiation by gases and particles. He introduced a combination of field, chamber, and instrument development work, and elaborated the absorption spectra of water vapour in the near-ultraviolet, photolysis research of nitroaromatic compounds, and the field measurements of near-UV aerosol extinction from the CARE Beijing campaign.
The presentation attracted many researchers and graduate students. And a warm discussion was carried on about spectroscopy techniques and field measurement campaign after the talk.
Dr. Dean Venables is a lecturer in the Chemistry Department of UCC, Ireland, PhD from Yale University. His main researches include atmospheric chemistry and instrument development for quantifying trace gases and characterizing aerosols. Dr. Venables has over 700 citations and an h-index of 13.
Dr. Ravi Varma, is a researcher in Physics Department in National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC), PhD from University of Nevada. He has interests in spectrometry, instrument development for atmospheric and environmental monitoring using principles of optics, radiative transfer and aerosol forcing on climate (global and regional).
