Prof. Rongying Jin from Department of Physics, Louisiana State University  and Prof. Ying Yang from State Key Laboratory of Mechanics and Control of Mechanical Structures, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics visited High Magnetic Field Laboratory, CAS (CHMFL) on June 12th, 2015. During their visit, Prof. Rongying Jin gave a presentation titled "On the Origin of Magnetic Phase Transitions in Low-Dimensional CaFe4As3 ".

The materials with low-dimensional structure usually present novel transport or magnetic properties. Prof. Rongying Jin presented their results on low-dimensional material, CaFe4As3. The metallic compound CaFe4As3 undergoes two antiferromagnetic (AFM) phase transitions occurring at TN1 ~ 90 K and TN2 ~ 26 K, respectively. Interestingly, these transitions are insensitive to chemical doping (e.g., Pt or Ga) but susceptible to the application of magnetic field. Possible origin of these magnetic phase transitions were discussed during the talk.

A lot of researchers and students from CHMFL and Institute of Solid State Physics, CAS (ISSP) attended the presentation. The talk aroused a lot of questions and promoted some new ideas about the topic, thus it was followed by a heated and prolonged discussion. Prof. Jin and Prof Ying were both very impressed by the facilities and research in CHMFL, and they discussed potential collaborations in the near future.

Prof. Rongying Jin is a full professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Louisiana State University. She received her PhD in Physics from Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich in 1997. She has 186 publications in peer-reviewed journals and books, including Science (2 articles), Nature (2 articles), PNAS (3 articles), Nature Physics (1 article), Physical Review Letters (32 articles) with a Hirsch index h = 42.

Prof. Ying Yang is a full professor in State Key Laboratory of Mechanics and Control of Mechanical Structures, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. She received her PhD in Condensed Matter Physics from Nanjing University.
