PF5 Coil Successfully Installed-Another Milestone for ITER and EAST Team

Sep 23, 2021 | By ZHAO Weiwei

Poloidal field coil #5 (PF5), 17 metres in diameter and close to 350 tonnes, was successfully installed on Sept. 16 on the ITER construction site.

According to the TAC1 mission contract with ITER, Institute of Plasma Physics(ASIPP), HFIPS should ensure PF5 coil in the right place of Tokamak pit.

Therefore, when this second ring-shaped coil was installed on site, it is another major assembly milestone for both ITER and EAST, ASIPP.

As part of the manufacturer of PF5, EAST team also made the poloidal field coil #6 (PF6), which was the first magnet to be installed in the assembly pit in late April 2021.

China, as one of the seven ITER parties, officially participated the collaboration in 2006 with procurement of thirty feeders and some Poloidal Field Coils.

As one important partner of ITER China working group, Institute of Plasma Physics, Hefei Institutes of Physical Science (ASIPP, HFIPS) undertakes the procurement package of superconducting conductors, correction coil, superconducting feeder, power supply and diagnosis, accounting for nearly 80% of China's ITER procurement package.
