Today is a traditional Chinese festival Laba, which falls on the eighth day of the twelfth month in lunar calendar.
One of its important elements is Laba porridge. Generally, it contains eight ingredients which can include glutinous rice, red beans, millet, Chinese sorghum, peas, dried lotus seeds and some other ingredients, such as dried dates, chestnut meat, walnut meat, almond and peanut, etc.
The festival started from Son Dynasty (about 700 years ago) when all the families were cooking this kind porridge in memory of China's national hero Yue Fei.
The traditional food - Laba porridge contains at least 8 treasures.
HFIPS affiliated school was sharing Laba porridge today to celebrate.
