Trees have many benefits for neighborhood. On Mar. 12, Chinese Arbor Day, volunteers gathered to plant over 100 trees on science island.
History of Chinese Arbor Day
Chinese Arbor day, with almost 100 years' history, has a different origin from Western countries.
A Chinese silviculturist, LING Daoyang, called attention to trees in 1915 on Qingming Festival, which was the first Arbor Day in China. Later in 1928, government reset the Arbor Day to Mar. 12, in memory of Sun Yat-sen, the Father of Modern China.
