The "China-Korea Workshop on W-based Metal Wall/Divertor & Plasma-Wall Interactions", hosted by Institute of Plasma Physics (ASIPP), Hefei Institutes of Physical Science (HFIPS), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), was held from 11 to 13 July 2023. The event was the first on-site international bilateral workshop organized by HFIPS in 2023 and falls under the framework of the China-Korea Governmental Bilateral Science and Technology Cooperation.
The workshop was chaired by Professor LUO Guangnan, the coordinator of the China-Korea W-based Metal Wall Program, and aimed at exchanging information and discussing future cooperation concerning the progress of bilateral research on the advanced tungsten materials and components for tokamak devices, and the interactions between the plasma and the surface of materials in the environment of tungsten first wall. Thirty-five researchers from the Korea Institute of Fusion Energy (KFE), ASIPP, Advanced Technology & Materials Co., Ltd (AT&M), Hefei University of Technology (HFUT) and Institute of Solid State Physics (ISSP) of CAS participated in the meeting.
The opening ceremony was delivered by HU Jiansheng, Deputy Director of ASIPP, followed by 12 invited presentations and 16 oral presentations covering a variety of topics, such as R&D of W materials and components for tokamak devices, plasma, and W material interactions, and related diagnostics and simulations. The participants engaged in in-depth discussions and concluded with future collaboration directions discussions led by Professor ZHOU Haishan and Dr. Sungjin KWON. Professor LUO Guangnan concluded the workshop with a summary speech.
ASIPP and KFE are long-term partners, and the success of this workshop has provided an opportunity for face-to-face communication between researchers from both nations and has promoted the cooperation in cutting-edge areas such as W-based metal wall/diverter and plasma-wall interactions.
