On April 16, the Anhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics (AIOFM), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and the Institute of Atmospheric Optics, Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), signed a renewed five-year international cooperation agreement on Science Island in Hefei.
This renewed agreement builds upon the initial collaboration established in May 2019 and reflects the ongoing commitment of both institutions to advancing research in atmospheric optics. Over the past five years, the two sides have made significant progress in areas such as laser atmospheric remote sensing and optical wave propagation through the atmosphere. A major achievement has been the joint establishment of the China-Russia Joint Research Center for Atmospheric Optics in Hefei, along with the advancement of the GAONet initiative—a global network for aerosol-cloud-precipitation observations—with operational stations already established in China and Russia.
Under the new agreement, cooperation will be further expanded to include the joint development of aerosol-cloud detection instruments, research on optical wave transmission in the atmosphere, advanced atmospheric detection technologies, and molecular spectroscopy.
