Hands-On Plant Science: From Lab Flowers to Field Crops

Apr 30, 2025 | By

On Science Island, a group of dedicated researchers is working closely with plants.  Delicate flower specimens are being carefully studied under controlled conditions. Though hidden from public view, this quiet, detailed work is vital to agricultural innovation.

In the past weeks, researchers have been focused on wheat hybridization experiments. They carefully assist in the pollination process by hand, selecting and crossing desired wheat varieties. Each step—from choosing parent plants to ensuring successful fertilization—is part of a long-term effort to breed stronger, more productive crops.
