Great Heat Marks the Peak of Summer

Jul 29, 2025 | By

On July 22, China entered Great Heat (大暑), the 12th of the 24 traditional solar terms and one of the hottest periods of the year. Temperatures soar across the country, with many regions experiencing prolonged heatwaves and high humidity.

Traditionally, this time is associated with intense sunlight, strong summer storms, and flourishing crops. While farmers make full use of the growing season, health experts advise the public to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak hours, and take precautions against heatstroke.

Despite the extreme heat, Great Heat also reflects the resilience of life and the importance of seasonal balance in traditional Chinese culture.
