Anne-Isabelle Etienneffre, President of the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), visited ASIPP, HFIPS, CAS during her trip accompanying French President Emmanuel Macron to China, following the signing of a bilateral cooperation agreement between CEA and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

During the visit, Etienneffre and her delegation toured the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST), the Comprehensive Research Facility for Fusion Technology (CRAFT), and the construction site of the Burning plasma Experimental Superconducting Tokamak (BEST). They gained in-depth insights into the series of innovative achievements made by ASIPP in the field of magnetic confinement fusion and spoke highly of the enduring and profound international scientific cooperation between ASIPP and CEA. Both sides proposed further ideas and plans for specific collaborative research and held in-depth discussions on future directions of cooperation in fusion engineering technology and plasma applications.

Cooperation between ASIPP and CEA in fusion research has a profound history, spanning over four decades. The two sides established close scientific ties early on and jointly founded the Sino-French Fusion Joint Laboratory, achieving fruitful collaboration in areas such as superconducting tokamak technology and plasma physics experiments. Building on this solid foundation, the Sino-French Institute for Fusion Energy Research (SIFFER) was officially established in 2013 under the witness of leaders from both countries. The center aims to advance research and development in key fusion energy technologies, cultivate high-level talent, and deepen cooperation related to the ITER project.
