China and Russia to Further Collaboration on Atmospheric Optics Research

Jan 25, 2021 | By People.com.cn

The cooperation betweenAnhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics (AIOFM), Hefei Institutes of Physical Science (HFIPS) and Institute of Atmospheric Optics, Russian Academy of Sciences can be traced back to 1980s, when they made efforts to build a full-height lidar atmospheric detection facility with an independent largescale telescope to achieve comprehensive high-resolution three-dimensional detection for atmospheric aerosol, atmospheric turbulence and meteorological parameters.

In 2019, the China-Russia Research Center for Atmospheric Optics was jointly established, aiming to elevate the cooperation to higher level, especially in the field of scientific research and the construction of atmospheric observation stations.

They focused on the development of advanced LIDAR technology to obtain atmospheric profiles, especially on the optical and micro-physical characteristics of clouds and aerosols in theory and experiment. Through the analysis of atmospheric composition, atmospheric state and atmospheric phenomenon, scientists obtained parameters of atmospheric aerosol, cloud, temperature and humidity, wind and turbulence, which would improve the accuracy of meteorological forecast and the ability of early warning of natural disasters.

In the future, relying on the Hefei Comprehensive National Science Center and the China-Russia Research Center for Atmospheric Optics, the two sides will continue their cooperation and promote the research and development of other optical detection equipment.
