The 6th International Conference on Advanced Nanoparticle Generation & Excitation by Lasers in Liquids 2021 (ANGEL2021) was successfully held from June 16 to 18, 2021 in Hefei Institutes of Physical Science (HFIPS), Hefei, China.

This conference, which happens to have the abbreviation (ANGEL) from Greek mythology, is in fact the most important event in the field of laser synthesis of colloids in liquids. Previous ANGEL conferences, which were held every two years, were hosted by countries from Europe or Japan in Asia. This is the first time that the conference, ANGEL2021, was hosted by China. Professor LIANG changhao from the institute of Solid Materials, HFIPS chaired the conference.

ANGEL2021 not only displayed the latest research progress in the field of lasers synthesis of colloids in liquids, but also promoted direct exchanges between Chinese and foreign scholars. It also provides a good platform for further enhancing the academic influence of Chinese scholars.

ANGEL2021 conference was held online and off-line simultaneously. More than 90 scientists from 20 countries attended online meeting, and over 70 scientists in China came to Hefei to participate in the conference on site.

The three-days meeting offered a good platform for people to exchange the latest researches and the interesting improvements in the field of laser synthesis of colloids in liquids during the global pandemic. The diversified topic ranges from Laser processing in liquids, Laser processing involved dynamics, to Laser induced advanced semiconductors, Application of laser generated nanoparticles. Scientists worldwide took the chance and shared 10 invited presentation, 42 oral presentation, 16 flash talk and 22 posters.

Besides, ANGEL2021 opened a live broadcast service for Chinese students who could not come to the venue. More than 3000 audience joined the conference virtually.

The conference programme committee, consisting of 8 field experts from 5 countries, selected award recipients for Fojtik-Henglein Prize who has achieved a significant breakthrough, a pioneering research result, or made uncommonly contribution to laser synthesis of colloids in liquids.

In the end of conference, Prof. LIANG handed over the chairmanship to Virginia Commonwealth University and University of Virginia, USA, who will host 7th ANGEL conference jointly.

ANGEL2021 was funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China (11942415) and Chinese Adademy of Sciences.
