WAN Baonian is Elected Member in the Chinese Academy of Sciences

HFIPS’s fusion scientist WAN Baonian, former director of the Institute of Plasma Physics, HFIPS, now as its chief scientist, was elected to membership in the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) as the CAS officially released this morning its 2021 new-elected members.

As a newly elected CAS member in Division of Mathematics and Physics, Professor WAN Baonian has been working at frontier of plasma physical experiment for years. His election to CAS member is a recognition of not only his distinguished and continuing achievement of original research in nuclear fusion science but also his long-impacting leadership under which the EAST team has been exploring steady state operation in fusion reactor to achieve milestones in both physical and engineering progress.

Members are elected to the Chinese Academy of Sciences in marking their outstanding achievements in original research. CAS Membership is a widely accepted recognition of excellence in science and is considered one of the highest honors that a scientist can receive.
