In a paper published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) recently, a team led by Prof. WANG Junfeng from the High Magnetic Field Laboratory (HMFL), Hefei Institutes of Physical Science (HFIPS) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, biomimetically synthesized soft ferromagnetic nanoparticles with high magnetic targeting and tumor tissue penetration based on studying the biomineralization mechanism of natural "biocompass" ― magnetotactic bacteria.
The apex of this 19-meter-high sculpture symbolizes challenge of science. The tracks spiral up and decrease layer by layer while maintaining a distance from the peak, signifying that there is neither shortcut nor terminal for scientific exploration but perseverance goes beyond. At night, light radiates interweaving from the tracks and base of the sculpture, sparkling with spirit and power of science.
On August 12, the hybrid magnet of the Steady High Magnetic Field Facility (SHMFF) in Hefei, China, produced a steady field of 45.22 tesla (T), the highest steady magnetic field by a working magnet in the world.
