The 100th Plasma Discharge Marks Another Step Forward in Fusion Research Collaboration between Thailand and China

Jun 06, 2023 | By ZHAO Weiwei

Thailand Tokamak-1 (TT-1) achieved a significant milestone on the night of May 11th, as it successfully completed its 100th plasma discharge in front of over 30 scientists and researchers from China and Thailand. Located in Ongkharak, Thailand, this event marked the first successful demonstration of TT-1's physics experimental capabilities at its new location.

In July 2022, TT-1 underwent a major upgrade and refurbishment conducted by the Institute of Plasma Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Hefei, China. The upgraded equipment was shipped to Thailand in December 2022, and since January 24th, 2023, approximately 45 researchers from ASIPP have been sent to Thailand in four separate groups to help on the installation, debugging, and operation of the equipment.

TT-1 is expected to attract more young scientific researchers to engage in fusion science research.
