Brief Introduction for FDS

   FDS was originally derived from Fusion Driven (Subcritical) System. And now our name also extends to Fusion Design Study and Fusion (Super-integrated) Digitalization and Simulation.

------Our team is a net-work team, composed of many members coming from different institutes. We have about 20 staff members and more than 50 students at our head office in Hefei. We also have about 10 senior scientists in our support net-work from some of the top universities and institutes in China. -----

   The head office of our team is part of ASIPP. That is Academia Sinica, Institute of Plasma Physics, which is under the umbrella of Hefei Institute of Physical Science Chinese Academy of Sciences. There are more than 600 staff members and 300 students in ASIPP. In reference to our location, please refer to the map.

Structure:

We have 7 working groups and 4 laboratories.

------Referring to our neutronics group, some neutronics studies conducted by my team for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project are spoken highly by an international panel of experts at the progress review meeting on ITER neutronics studies. We have successfully finished three ITER cooperation tasks, including the first ITER cooperation task of China.

------Referring to material laboratory, we have constructed 3 Lithium Lead loops, on which material erosion experiments can be conducted. These loops are also can be used to testify the feasibility of lithium lead blankets. In addition, as the leading group of Reduced Activation Ferritic-Martensitic steel in China, we are developing the China Low Activation Martensitic (CLAM) steel to support Chinese fusion DEMO reactor development.

------What’s more worthy of mentioning is that we have a very strong computer science group, which works closely with other groups of our team. More than 10 powerful software programs have been developed for modeling, simulation and visualization of physics and engineering procedures in the field of nuclear technology. Some of them have been applied in US, EU, Japan and other countries. MCAM (Monte Carlo Auto-Modeling) program, a well-known CAD-MC interface program in the field of neutronics, is one example.
